- You are an outpatient at Zhejiang Cancer Hospital who has been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer (a specific type of thyroid cancer) confirmed by a tissue test, and you have had surgery for it
- You are experiencing symptoms of depression, scored at a certain level on a depression rating scale and confirmed by a clinical psychologist
- You are of Han Chinese ethnicity
- You have no previous history of depression or other mental health conditions
- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- You are female
Who may not be able to join:
- You have other diseases affecting your digestive system (such as your stomach or intestines)
- You have had surgery on your digestive system (stomach or intestines) in the past
- You have another type of cancer at the same time that needs treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation, biological therapy, or traditional Chinese medicine
- You have taken antibiotics or gut health supplements (such as probiotics) within the last 3 months
- You currently have a blocked intestine
- You are currently taking antidepressant medication, or the doctors feel you urgently need to start taking antidepressants
- You have a brain disease or have experienced a brain injury
- You have a history of mental health conditions, or have used recreational drugs or other mind-altering substances
- You have serious liver or kidney problems
- You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
