Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been diagnosed with classic PKU (phenylketonuria)
- You are not currently active in sports
- You do not have any other existing health conditions
- You do not currently have any infection
- Your BMI (a measure of body weight relative to height) has been between 20 and 28 within the last 3 months
- You are willing to eat specific test meals and give blood samples to measure amino acid levels as part of the study
- You are willing to take part in this research
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a long-term (chronic) illness alongside your PKU, such as a hormonal or glandular condition
- You have an intellectual disability related to PKU, or have been assessed as being unable to carry out certain tasks based on a psychological and movement assessment (confirm with trial site)
- You have recently lost weight, been admitted to hospital, had an infection, or been diagnosed with a new illness
- You are taking any medications or using alcohol that can affect how your body processes protein or energy (for example, steroid-type medicines)
- You are pregnant
- You are a smoker
- You have done intense exercise or played sport in the 24 hours before the test meals are given
- You are currently on your menstrual period (for female participants)
