Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged between 18 and 70 years old on the day they sign the consent form, of any gender.
  • People whose blood pressure readings at screening or randomisation fall within a specific elevated range — either the top number (systolic) is between 140 and 169 mmHg with the bottom number (diastolic) below 110 mmHg, or the bottom number is between 90 and 109 mmHg with the top number between 130 and 169 mmHg (confirm with trial site if unsure which applies).
  • People who are either not currently taking any blood pressure medication, or who have been on a stable dose of certain blood pressure medications for at least 30 days before screening — including ACE inhibitors, ARBs, thiazide diuretics, or calcium channel blockers; people already taking stable doses of beta blockers (such as metoprolol or atenolol) or spironolactone who plan to continue at the same dose may also be eligible.
  • People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 24 or above at the time of screening.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose high blood pressure is known to be caused by another underlying medical condition.
  • People who have previously been diagnosed with a specific type of heart failure where the heart muscle is weakened (known as heart failure with reduced ejection fraction).
  • People who have had a procedure to restore blood flow to the heart (coronary revascularisation) within the past 90 days, or who are planning to have such a procedure during the trial.
  • People who have been diagnosed with, or are suspected of having, Type 1 diabetes, certain rare forms of diabetes, or diabetes caused by another medical condition (gestational diabetes is not included in this exclusion).
  • People who have a history of acute or chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic injury, acute gallbladder inflammation, or gallbladder disease that causes symptoms or requires treatment — though people who have had their gallbladder removed may still be considered eligible at the investigator's discretion (confirm with trial site).
