Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged between 18 and 55 years old
  • People who are currently experiencing at least 4 PTSD symptoms, including at least 1 re-experiencing symptom (such as unwanted trauma memories, nightmares about trauma, flashbacks, strong emotional distress linked to trauma, or strong physical reactions linked to trauma)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently pregnant
  • People with a history of feeling lightheaded or fainting during physical activity
  • People with a history of chest pain during physical activity
  • People who have been told by a doctor that a bone, joint, heart, or other medical condition could be made worse by physical activity
  • People who answer "Yes" to any of the seven questions on a standard physical activity safety questionnaire (called the PAR-Q), unless a doctor has provided written confirmation that aerobic exercise is safe for them
  • People who have had a heart procedure (percutaneous coronary intervention) or a heart attack within the past 6 weeks
  • People who have had an unstable heart rhythm problem or received a shock from an implanted heart device within the past 3 months
  • People who have metal objects inside their body (such as electronic devices, surgical implants, or shrapnel)
  • People who have non-removable dental hardware such as braces or permanent retainers, as these can interfere with MRI scans (note: fillings, crowns, and gold or silver teeth are generally acceptable — confirm with trial site)
  • People with any other condition, medication, or implant that the trial team believes could affect MRI image quality or make the data unusable
  • People with a diagnosis of a psychotic disorder
  • People with permanent makeup or tattoos that contain metallic dyes
  • People with a history of loss of consciousness lasting more than 30 minutes
  • People with physical disabilities that would prevent them from completing study tasks (such as blindness or deafness)
  • People with any other condition that the trial team believes could put them at risk
  • People who experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
  • People with a history of cardiovascular (heart or blood vessel) disease
  • People who are currently living in or experiencing an ongoing traumatic situation (such as living with an abusive partner)
  • People with a severe substance use disorder
  • People whose medication has changed within approximately the past 4 weeks
  • People who have taken sedatives, certain pain medications (such as benzodiazepines or Vicodin), or prescription stimulants (such as Adderall) within 6 hours before a study visit
