Who might be able to join this trial:

For people with bipolar disorder:

• You have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder (or previously were), your condition is currently stable, and you are willing to take part in assessments
• You are aged 18 or older but under 65
• You are of Han Chinese ethnicity
• You have good enough vision and hearing to complete the required study tests
• You understand what the study involves and are able to sign a consent form (a family member or guardian may sign on your behalf if needed)

For healthy volunteers (comparison group):

• You are aged 18 or older but under 65
• You are of Han Chinese ethnicity
• Your gender matches that of participants in the patient group
• You have good enough vision and hearing to complete the required study tests
• You understand what the study involves and are willing to sign a consent form
• You have no family history of mental illness

Who may not be able to join:

For people with bipolar disorder:

• You have an intellectual disability or another condition that significantly affects your current mental state
• You have a serious or unstable physical health condition, such as a neurological condition (e.g. dementia, stroke, or epilepsy), heart problems, high blood pressure that is untreated or not well controlled, cancer, a weakened immune system, very high blood sugar levels, or other health issues that could interfere with the study tests (confirm with trial site)

For healthy volunteers:

• You have any mental health disorder as defined by DSM-5, or you have some mental health symptoms that are noticeable but not enough for a full diagnosis
• You have a serious physical health condition that would make it difficult to complete the required study tests
