Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are able to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
- You have at least 10 of your own natural teeth
- You belong to one of the following groups: you have Alport syndrome (confirmed by genetic testing or medical diagnosis); you have Fabry disease (confirmed by enzyme testing or genetic testing); you have Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (confirmed by medical or genetic criteria); you have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (lupus) that also affects your kidneys, shown by a kidney biopsy, persistent protein in your urine, or certain findings in your urine tests; you have chronic kidney disease that is not caused by a rare condition, based on standard medical measurements of kidney function or signs of kidney damage; or you do not have chronic kidney disease and are being recruited as a comparison participant from a clinic or dental setting
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had gum (periodontal) treatment in the last 6 months
- You have taken antibiotics in the last 4 weeks
- You are currently pregnant
- You have a condition that would make a gum examination impossible or unsafe (confirm with trial site)
- You are unable to follow the study procedures for any reason
