Who might be able to join this trial:
Cohort 1 – Survey study (people with SMA and caregivers):
- You have been diagnosed with SMA that has been confirmed by genetic testing, and you are between 12 and 18 years old
- You have a good understanding of English, or someone who can help you understand English well enough to complete a survey
- If you are between 12 and 15 years old, your parent or legal guardian is willing to give their consent for you to take part
- If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you are able to give your own consent to take part
- You are a parent, legal guardian, or caregiver of a child or young person living with SMA who is between 6 and 18 years old (caregivers can also join this part)
- As a caregiver, you have a good understanding of English, or someone who can help you understand English well enough to complete the survey
Cohort 2 – Device study (children and young people with SMA aged 6–18):
- You have been diagnosed with SMA confirmed by genetic testing, and you are between 6 and 18 years old
- You have a good understanding of English
- You have been treated with a disease-modifying therapy (a medication that affects how SMA progresses) after your symptoms appeared
- Information about your number of SMN2 gene copies is available (confirm with trial site)
- Information about your current physical functioning and abilities is available
- If you are between 6 and 15 years old, your parent or legal guardian is able to give written consent, and you are also willing to agree to take part
- If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you are able to give your own written consent
Who may not be able to join:
- You have any ongoing or recent health condition that, in the opinion of the trial team, would significantly interfere with using the device being studied — for example, an arm or hand injury that would prevent you from using the technology, or a skin condition that would prevent the use of electrode patches on your skin (confirm with trial site)
