Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old
- People with a body weight in a healthy range (BMI between 18 and 45)
- People who have been diagnosed with focal epilepsy (a type of epilepsy where seizures start in one specific area of the brain) for at least 24 months before the first study visit
- People who have had at least one brain scan (MRI or CT) and one EEG (brain activity test) within the past 10 years that support their focal epilepsy diagnosis
- People currently taking between 1 and 3 regular anti-seizure medications (not counting emergency or as-needed medications)
- People who are able to keep accurate daily records of their seizures using an electronic diary app or device
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a known allergic reaction to, or have previously taken, the study drug RAP-219
- People with a serious ongoing or unstable medical, neurological (other than focal epilepsy), or psychiatric condition
- People who are expected to need surgery at any point during the study
- People with a history of generalised epilepsy (where seizures affect the whole brain)
- People whose only seizure type is one where they remain fully aware and there are no visible outward signs during the seizure
- People who have experienced non-epileptic seizures that are caused by psychological rather than neurological reasons (sometimes called PNES)
- People who have had a prolonged seizure or clusters of seizures that could not be counted individually within the 12 months before the first study visit
- People who have had epilepsy surgery within the 12 months before the first study visit
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial of an experimental treatment within the past 12 weeks, or within 5 half-lives of that experimental treatment, whichever is longer (confirm with trial site)
