Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have some visible dark (brown to black) spots, patches, or widespread darkening of the gums (based on a specific gum pigmentation scoring system used by dentists)

- You are in generally good overall health with no systemic (whole-body) illnesses

- You have a medical condition that causes abnormal skin or gum darkening, or that affects how your body heals wounds (such as uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune diseases)
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are currently using antiseptic mouth rinses such as chlorhexidine or povidone iodine
- Your gum darkening is related to smoking
- You have active gum or periodontal (teeth and gum) disease, such as gingivitis or periodontitis
- You are unlikely to follow through with the treatment plan or attend required appointments
