Who might be able to join this trial:

For patients using the MyRenalCare digital platform (main study groups):

  • People aged 18 or over who are receiving kidney care at the Wessex Kidney Centre and are registered with, or have been offered a place on, the MyRenalCare platform
  • People who are able to understand the study information and agree to their data being used for research

For patients in the comparison group (not using MyRenalCare):

  • People aged 18 or over receiving care for chronic kidney disease at the Wessex Kidney Centre who have never used the MyRenalCare platform, and whose medical records contain enough information for comparison purposes

For patients taking part in interviews:

  • People aged 18 or over who are currently using, or have recently been offered, the MyRenalCare platform as part of their kidney care at the Wessex Kidney Centre, who can understand spoken and written English well enough to take part in an interview, and who are willing to give written consent for a recorded interview
  • People from a range of backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, stages of kidney disease, or levels of digital technology use, as the study is aiming to include a diverse group

For clinical staff taking part in interviews:

  • Staff employed by Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust or working in close partnership with the Wessex Kidney Centre, who are directly involved in caring for patients with chronic kidney disease or in running the MyRenalCare platform, and who are willing to give consent for a recorded interview
  • Staff who are able to reflect on their experiences of delivering, supporting, or observing the use of digital health tools in kidney care

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose kidney problems are due to a sudden acute injury rather than a long-term chronic kidney condition
  • People whose clinical team considers their health situation to be such that taking part in routine digital monitoring would not be appropriate
  • People who have previously asked for their routinely collected medical data not to be used for research, where that request applies to this study
  • People who cannot be reliably identified in the available medical records due to missing or inconsistent information
  • People where the responsible clinician considers that taking part would be unsuitable or place too much burden on them
  • Clinical staff who are not directly involved in caring for patients with chronic kidney disease or in supporting the MyRenalCare platform
  • Staff members who are on extended leave or are otherwise unavailable during the period when interviews are being conducted
  • Anyone who does not wish to have their views included in recorded interview transcripts, or who is unable to give informed consent to take part
  • Anyone where the study team or the person's manager considers participation to be unsuitable due to their role, availability, or a potential conflict of interest
