Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older; people of all genders and races are welcome.
  • You have been recently diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB) in the lungs, either through a clinical diagnosis or a procedure called bronchoscopy, within the last week.
  • You have a latent (hidden/inactive) TB infection, meaning a specific blood test called T-SPOT came back positive but you do not currently have active TB disease.
  • You have TB affecting the lining around your lungs (called tuberculous pleurisy) that was diagnosed within the last week.
  • You are willing to take part in this study and able to sign a consent form agreeing to join.
  • Your test results show that your TB bacteria are resistant to at least two common TB medicines (isoniazid and rifampicin), which is known as drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB).
  • Your test results show that your TB bacteria respond normally to the standard first-line TB medicines.
  • Your test results show that your TB bacteria are resistant to only one TB medicine.
  • You have been newly diagnosed (within the last week) with a lung infection caused by bacteria related to TB, called nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), confirmed through a sputum (mucus) test or genetic testing.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a weakened immune system, such as HIV infection, have been taking immune-suppressing medicines or steroids for more than one month, or have severe malnutrition.
  • You have another serious lung condition, severe liver or kidney problems, a serious hormonal or blood disorder, or cancer that could affect the study results.
  • You have diabetes.
  • You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
  • You are unable or unwilling to give your consent to take part, or you may have difficulty following the study requirements.
