Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are male and aged 50 years or older
- You have been diagnosed with a non-cancerous enlarged prostate that is causing moderate to severe urinary symptoms
- Your prostate symptom score on a standard questionnaire (called the IPSS) is 13 or higher
- Your prostate is a certain size — between 30 and 80 mL — as measured by an ultrasound scan
- Your urine flow rate and the amount of urine you pass meet specific measurements set by the trial (confirm with trial site)
- The amount of urine left in your bladder after urinating is 250 mL or less
- You have tried medication for your enlarged prostate but it has not worked for you, caused side effects, or you do not wish to continue it
- You have been sexually active in the past 3 months
- You are currently able to ejaculate normally
- You want to preserve your ability to ejaculate
- You are able to complete several standard questionnaires about urinary and sexual health
- You are willing and able to give written consent to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have suspected or confirmed prostate cancer
- You have an abnormal prostate exam or blood test result that raises concern for cancer, unless cancer has already been ruled out
- You have had previous surgery on your prostate
- You have had previous surgery on your urethra (the tube you urinate through) that could affect the procedure or results
- You have a narrowing of the urethra (called a urethral stricture)
- Your bladder does not work properly due to a nerve or neurological condition
- You currently have an active urinary tract infection that has not been treated
- You have bladder stones that would need to be treated at the same time
- Your prostate is smaller than 30 mL or larger than 80 mL
- You are currently unable to ejaculate at all, or have severe ejaculation problems
- You have not been sexually active in the past 3 months
- You currently use a long-term urinary catheter (through the urethra or abdomen)
- You have repeated episodes of being unable to urinate, or there are concerns about how well your bladder muscle works (confirm with trial site)
- The amount of urine remaining in your bladder after urinating is more than 250 mL
- You have a blood clotting disorder that is not well controlled
- You are taking blood thinning or anti-clotting medication that cannot be safely paused around the time of the procedure
- You are not considered medically fit enough for anaesthesia or the procedure itself
- You are unable or unwilling to attend follow-up appointments
