Who might be able to join this trial:

For patients with a rare inherited or structural brain blood vessel condition (MVCR group):

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • You have a confirmed diagnosis of a genetic brain blood vessel condition (such as CADASIL, or a condition linked to the COL4A1, COL4A2, or HTRA1 genes), OR a confirmed diagnosis of Moya-Moya disease, cavernoma, cerebral venous thrombosis, or another brain blood vessel malformation
  • You are already enrolled in the MVCR patient group (confirm with trial site)
  • You are covered by social security or an equivalent health insurance scheme
  • You are willing and able to give written consent to participate

For healthy comparison volunteers (control group):

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • Your blood pressure is below 140/90 mmHg without medication, or below 130/80 mmHg if you take blood pressure medication that has been stable for at least 3 months
  • Your neurological examination is completely normal, with no signs of weakness or other focal problems
  • Your memory and thinking assessment score is 26 or above out of 30 on a standard test (MMSE)
  • You are covered by social security or an equivalent health insurance scheme
  • You are willing and able to give written consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

For everyone (both groups):

  • You are pregnant, currently in labour, or breastfeeding
  • You are under 18 years old
  • You are currently deprived of your liberty (for example, held in custody) by a legal or administrative decision
  • You are hospitalised without your consent and do not have a legal protection arrangement in place
  • You are an adult under a legal guardianship or protection measure, or are unable to give consent yourself
  • You are currently in a waiting or exclusion period from another research study
  • You are already taking part in another interventional (hands-on) research study
  • You have an active or long-term infectious disease

For healthy comparison volunteers (control group) only:

  • You have any known brain or blood vessel condition in or around the brain that requires specific medical management
  • You have a known heart or cardiovascular condition, such as coronary artery disease, arterial disease, atrial fibrillation, or heart failure
  • You have a history of stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), bleeding in the brain, meningitis, encephalitis, or a head injury that caused loss of consciousness for more than 30 minutes
  • You have multiple sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease, or active epilepsy
  • You are a current or former smoker with a significant smoking history (more than 10 pack-years) (confirm with trial site if unsure how this applies to you)
  • You have diabetes
  • You are taking blood-thinning medications or cholesterol-lowering medications
