Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 64 years old
- You have been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, also known as lupus) based on recognised medical guidelines
- You have a low platelet count (a type of blood cell that helps with clotting) — either below a certain level, or slightly higher but with signs of bleeding
- You have had at least two blood tests confirming your low platelet count
- A bone marrow test has shown a problem with how your platelet-producing cells are maturing (confirm with trial site)
- You are willing to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- Your low platelet count is caused by something other than lupus
- Your condition has not responded to high-dose steroids or other immune-suppressing treatments after 3 months
- You have received a medicine called rituximab in the last 6 months
- You have serious involvement of major organs, such as significant kidney protein loss, brain or nervous system problems, or heart or digestive system complications
- You have another autoimmune disease (other than Sjögren's syndrome, which is allowed)
- You have or have had cancer
- You currently have an active infection such as HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or syphilis
- You have serious liver or kidney problems
- You have an enlarged spleen
- You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- You have a medical reason that prevents you from taking the study medications (confirm with trial site)
- You have a major wound or surgical incision that has not fully healed
- The medical team running the trial considers you unsuitable for another reason
