Who might be able to join this trial:
Group 1 – Bladder Cancer and/or Upper Tract Urothelial Cell Carcinoma (UCC):
- People aged 18 or older who are scheduled for a surgical procedure to remove or examine a bladder tumor or take a tissue sample from the urinary tract
- People who previously had urothelial cell carcinoma (a type of cancer affecting the urinary tract) and are currently being monitored, with no sign of the cancer returning at the time of joining the study
- People with bladder cancer — either the type that has grown into the bladder muscle or the type that has not — who are scheduled for chemotherapy before surgery and/or bladder removal surgery
- People who are able to give consent before their scheduled procedure or treatment begins
- People who are able to provide at least 20ml (about 4 teaspoons) of urine — if someone cannot do this naturally, a doctor may collect urine using a catheter or small camera instrument (confirm with trial site)
- People already taking part in other bladder cancer studies may also be eligible, provided any experimental treatments are recorded in the study documents
Group 2 – Hematuria (Blood in Urine) Control Group:
- People aged 18 or older who have blood in their urine (either visible or detected by a test), as determined by standard medical assessment
- People who have no current or past history of bladder cancer, upper urinary tract cancer, kidney cancer, or prostate cancer at the time of sample collection
- People who are able to give consent
- People who are able to provide at least 20ml of urine
- People already taking part in other studies may also be eligible, provided any experimental treatments are recorded in the study documents
Who may not be able to join:
Group 1 – Bladder Cancer and/or Upper Tract UCC:
- People who have an active urinary tract infection with symptoms at the time the urine sample is collected
- People who are unable to provide a sufficient urine sample
Group 2 – Hematuria Control Group:
- People who have a current diagnosis or past history of bladder cancer, upper urinary tract cancer, kidney cancer, or prostate cancer at the time of sample collection
