Who might be able to join this trial:

For people with Myasthenia Gravis (MG):

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis based on recognised international standards, meaning they have fluctuating muscle weakness plus at least one confirming test result (such as a positive response to a specific medication test, a nerve stimulation test showing a certain pattern, or a specialised muscle fibre test)
  • People whose blood tests have confirmed the presence of a specific antibody called anti-AChR
  • People whose MG falls into one of three categories: newly diagnosed with no prior treatment; stable on treatment for at least 12 months; or not responding well to standard treatment for at least 12 months
  • People who are willing and able to sign a consent form to take part going forward
  • For the records-based part of the study, people for whom stored biological samples are already available and who have previously signed a consent form allowing their use

For healthy comparison participants:

  • Adults aged 18 or older with no neuromuscular or autoimmune conditions, not currently on immune-affecting medications, and whose blood tests are negative for MG-related antibodies, matched by age and sex to the MG group

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose MG is not linked to the anti-AChR antibody, including those with anti-MuSK antibodies or other non-AChR antibodies
  • People whose MG affects only the eye muscles (purely ocular myasthenia gravis)
  • People who have another neuromuscular condition alongside MG, such as Lambert-Eaton syndrome, polymyositis, or muscular dystrophies
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People who are not able to provide informed consent

This study is not part of the standard drug-approval phase pathway (for example an observational, device, behavioural, or registry study), so a phase success rate does not apply.
