Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged 18 or older at the time of giving consent
• People of any gender, gender identity, race, or ethnicity
• People with a new diagnosis of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (a type of cancer that has grown into the muscle wall of the bladder), confirmed by laboratory testing of a tissue sample
• People whose cancer has been assessed as a specific stage (cT2–4a, N0–2, M0 — confirm with trial site) and who have been approved for either pre-surgery drug treatment followed by bladder removal, or a combination of radiation and chemotherapy
• People whose treatment plan aims to cure the cancer using one of the standard treatment approaches described above
• People who, if having surgery, are planned to have the bladder fully removed along with nearby lymph nodes on both sides of the pelvis
• People who, if having radiation therapy, are planned to have the bladder tumour removed through a scope first, followed by image-guided radiation therapy plus chemotherapy
• People who can provide a stored tumour tissue sample from their diagnosis biopsy — ideally in a wax block, or at least 10 unstained slides and 1 specially stained slide — that has been reviewed and approved by a local pathology team (certain sample types such as fine-needle aspirations are not accepted; if a core-needle biopsy was taken, at least three cores must be submitted)
• People who are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a written consent form
• People with a partner who could become pregnant must follow the guidelines recommended as part of their standard treatment to avoid conception during the trial

Who may not be able to join:

• People currently receiving an approved or experimental cancer treatment for a cancer other than bladder cancer (hormone replacement therapy or the contraceptive pill are still permitted; ongoing treatment specifically for bladder cancer is generally not exclusionary, though the number of people in this situation who can enrol may be limited)
• People who have had, or currently have, a different type of cancer (in a different location or of a different type), with the following exceptions that are generally still permitted:
  • Skin cancers (basal cell or squamous cell) that have been treated
  • Low or intermediate risk prostate cancer that is being monitored without active treatment
  • Certain slow-growing blood or bone marrow conditions that do not need active treatment
  • Small kidney growths being monitored without active treatment
  • Any cancer that was fully treated with the aim of a cure more than two years before the start of bladder cancer treatment
