Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have come to a participating hospital emergency department, intensive care unit, or inpatient unit because they have had, or are at risk of having, a stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), or another problem affecting blood flow to the brain
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant
- People who have certain medical devices or conditions that make MRI scanning unsafe — including brain aneurysm clips, implanted nerve stimulators, pacemakers or defibrillators, cochlear (hearing) implants, metal fragments in the eye, insulin pumps, metal shrapnel or bullets in the body, or any other implanted device that is not compatible with MRI (these individuals may still be eligible for parts of the study that do not involve MRI — confirm with trial site)
- People whose physical condition makes it difficult or impossible to enter an MRI scanner, such as severe obesity or claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) — these individuals would not be included in the MRI portion of the study
