Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with extensive and severe abnormal cell changes (dysplasia) in the airways of the lungs
- People who do not have abnormal cell changes in the airways, recruited through a specific tissue screening project or referred by a doctor (for those with moderate or severe dysplasia)
- People who have survived one or more cancers of the throat, mouth, or lungs for at least one year
- People who have had a stage I non-small cell lung cancer fully removed by surgery
- People who are already scheduled for one of the following procedures: a routine examination of the head and neck area (panendoscopy) for head and neck cancer; surgical removal of a lung tumour; a bronchoscopy (a camera procedure to look inside the airways) to investigate or assess suspected lung cancer; a follow-up bronchoscopy to monitor a previous serious airway condition; or a bronchoscopy being done for reasons other than suspected lung cancer
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known or obvious bleeding or clotting disorder
- People who have chest pain (angina) or an active heart condition involving the coronary arteries
- People who have a serious irregular heartbeat, including certain types of abnormal heart rhythms — note that well-controlled atrial fibrillation or very infrequent extra heartbeats (fewer than 2 per minute) may still be considered (confirm with trial site)
- People who have poorly managed heart failure
- People who have had a heart attack within the past 6 weeks
- People who have another serious medical condition that would make having a bronchoscopy unsafe
- People who have had acute bronchitis or pneumonia in the past 8 weeks, unless it is thought to be caused by lung cancer
- People whose blood oxygen level is too low (below 90% even with supplemental oxygen) before the procedure
- People who have asthma, significant lung disease, or any respiratory illness within the past 2 weeks (confirm with trial site, as this appears within a specific subgroup of criteria)
