Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with esophageal cancer (confirmed by a biopsy).
- Your cancer cannot be treated with the goal of a full cure, due to how advanced it is, whether it has spread to other parts of the body, or because of other serious health conditions you have.
- You are having trouble swallowing and can only manage eating some solid foods.
- You are generally well enough to carry out some daily activities (confirm with trial site regarding the specific fitness level required).
- You are able to start treatment within 14 days of signing the consent form.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- Your blood counts are at an acceptable level, including red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells (confirm specific values with trial site).
- Your liver and kidneys are working well enough to receive chemotherapy (confirm specific values with trial site).
- If you are able to have children, you are using adequate contraception.
- You are willing and able to give written informed consent to take part.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously had radiotherapy (radiation treatment) to your chest area.
- You currently have another active cancer at the same time.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding, or you are unwilling or unable to use two forms of birth control from the time of signing the consent form until 120 days after finishing or leaving the study.
- You have a health condition that makes any part of the treatment unsafe for you, including any reason you absolutely cannot have radiation therapy, or if you have a connective tissue disease (confirm with trial site).
- You have an abnormal opening between your windpipe and food pipe (tracheo-esophageal fistula).
- You already have a stent (a small tube) placed inside your food pipe (esophagus).
- You have previously had chemotherapy for esophageal cancer.
- You are unable to complete questionnaires written in English without the help of an interpreter.
