Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had their first stroke (either a bleed in the brain or a blockage) on one side only, from 24 hours after being admitted to hospital up to one year after the stroke occurred
  • People who have weakness or paralysis on one side of their body as a result of a stroke
  • People aged between 18 and 80 years old
  • People who have some level of reduced movement or function in their ankle

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have no ankle problems, or only very mild ankle problems
  • People with unstable health conditions that would interfere with their ability to do physical training and exercise
  • People with serious heart or blood vessel conditions that would prevent them from doing gentle movement exercises
  • People who have difficulty thinking clearly or have problems with speech and language that make it hard to follow instructions
  • People who have pressure sores, a recent surgical wound, or open skin conditions on the lower leg of the affected limb
  • People who have severe pain in their legs
