Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 21 and 75 years old (inclusive)
  • You are willing and able to read and sign a consent form that has been reviewed and approved by an ethics board
  • You have been diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) at any stage of certainty — possible, probable, or definite — based on recognised diagnostic guidelines

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have been diagnosed with another brain or nervous system disease, such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease
  • You have had a serious or unstable medical condition, such as unstable chest pain or advanced cancer, in the last 30 days
  • You are unable to have an MRI scan — for example, if you cannot stay still in the scanner for more than 30 minutes, feel very uncomfortable in enclosed spaces, have metal implants or a pacemaker in your body, weigh over 300 lbs, or if the study doctor feels you would not be able to lie flat comfortably for 75–90 minutes
  • You need physical help to walk or climb stairs, unless the study doctor believes, based on how slowly your condition is progressing, that you would still be able to take part in the MRI portion of the study 12 months after joining (confirm with trial site)
