Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Girls aged 3 to 14 years old
  • Girls who are receiving treatment to prepare for a bone marrow transplant, or who are having radiation therapy to the pelvic area (considered high risk for effects on ovarian function)
  • Girls being treated with chemotherapy for certain cancers, including AML, osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, neuroblastoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma, ALL, Wilms tumour, or retinoblastoma (considered moderate or low risk for effects on ovarian function)
  • Girls with a long-term illness or cancer who are not receiving chemotherapy or any other treatment known to affect the ovaries (this group serves as a comparison group in the trial)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Girls who have received or are receiving radiation therapy to the brain, or who have a brain tumour
  • Girls who have had any previous ovarian disease or surgery on the ovaries
  • Girls with a family history of early ovarian failure that is not caused by medical treatment or surgery
  • Girls with a known serious long-term condition that may affect normal growth or puberty, such as conditions causing poor nutrition, eating disorders, Turner syndrome, Kallmann syndrome, BPES syndrome, poorly controlled severe diabetes, Cushing syndrome, autoimmune diseases, cystic fibrosis, or severe kidney problems
  • Girls with a genetic or birth condition that affects intellectual development
