Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed through a biopsy with a specific type of cancer (squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma) located in the food pipe (esophagus) or where the food pipe meets the stomach.
- People whose tumor cannot be removed by surgery, or may potentially be removed by surgery, based on standard scans (ultrasound and CT scan).
- People who are older than 18 years of age.
- People whose cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body, except possibly to lymph nodes near the collarbone.
- People who have not previously had radiation therapy or chemotherapy to the chest area.

- People who have given written informed consent to participate.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to have an MRI scan for medical reasons.
- People who have had another type of cancer in the past, except for a very early-stage cervical cancer (in situ) or a type of non-dangerous skin cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer).
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
- People who have medical reasons that prevent them from safely receiving radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
