Who might be able to join this trial:
For people with stable COPD:
- Men or women between 18 and 85 years old
- People with a confirmed COPD diagnosis, shown either by a specific breathing test result (FEV1/FVC below 70%) or by an existing COPD diagnosis
- People who have given written consent to participate freely and without pressure
For people with a COPD flare-up (worsening of COPD requiring hospital admission):
- Men or women between 18 and 85 years old
- People with a confirmed COPD diagnosis, shown either by a specific breathing test result (FEV1/FVC below 70%) or by an existing COPD diagnosis
- People who, at the time of hospital admission for breathing failure, had a breathing rate above 25 breaths per minute, a high carbon dioxide level in the blood (PaCO2 above 45 mmHg), and a blood acidity reading (pH) below 7.35
- People whose blood acidity (pH) has returned above 7.33 for two days in a row, or who are between 3 and 7 days after their first day of hospital admission
- People whose temperature has returned below 38.5°C at the time of joining the study
- People who have given written consent to participate freely and without pressure
Who may not be able to join:
- People with an active or ongoing infection, or a blood inflammation marker (CRP) above 100 mg/L
- People whose main health problem is a heart condition causing the flare-up, or people with chronic heart failure where the heart pumping function (LVEF) is below 45%
- People with an active or growing cancer
- People currently taking antioxidant supplements, including N-acetylcysteine, selenium, vitamin C, or vitamin E
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are under legal guardianship or court-appointed supervision
- People already taking part in another clinical drug trial
- People who are not affiliated with the French social security system or an equivalent scheme
- People who are detained, or who have been admitted to hospital without giving their consent
