Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between the ages of 18 and 85 who have been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (a condition affecting blood flow in the arteries, usually in the legs).
- Both men and women of any ethnicity are welcome to participate.
- Diagnosis of peripheral artery disease is confirmed by a specific blood pressure ratio test (called an Ankle Brachial Index) that shows an abnormal result either at rest or during a walking test on a treadmill.
Who may not be able to join:
- People younger than 18 or older than 85 years of age.
- People who are unable to understand the consent process or cannot read or speak English.
- People who are currently pregnant.
- People who have a known allergic reaction or sensitivity to a type of contrast agent used in ultrasound imaging (called perflutren).
- People who have high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension).
- People who are currently using illicit drugs.
- People with blood pressure that is currently untreated and reads above 160/95.
- People who have sickle cell disease.
- People who have a history of an abnormal opening between the chambers of the heart (intracardiac shunt).
- People with certain neurological conditions such as spinal stenosis or unspecified pain disorders.
- People with any other serious medical conditions that are not currently under control (confirm with trial site).
