Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are planning to have a prostate biopsy, or who have already had one within the past 6 weeks
- Men between the ages of 30 and 100
- People who have previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer and are having a repeat biopsy, where testosterone levels are within the normal range (above 1.5 ng/ml)
- People who understand what the study involves and agree to provide a one-time urine sample (about 50 ml), and allow their medical information — including biopsy results, treatments, and health outcomes — to be used for research (note: urine test results from this study will not be shared back with participants)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have another active cancer (though people who were treated for a past cancer and have been cancer-free for 3 or more years may still be considered)
- People who have serious problems with organ function that could significantly affect how the body's cells work — for example, very poor kidney function, poorly controlled diabetes, symptomatic heart failure, or other significant metabolic conditions (confirm with trial site)
- People who have received systemic treatments such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy to reduce testosterone, immunotherapy, or targeted cancer therapy within the past 3 months
- People who have had radiation therapy to the pelvic area within the past 3 months
- People who have had a significant infection or inflammation within 8 weeks of the biopsy
- People whose urine test shows signs of a urinary tract infection (more than 5 white blood cells per high-powered field) within 4 weeks of the biopsy
- People who have been taking steroid medication (such as prednisolone) at a dose of 10 mg per day or more for 14 days or longer, or whose last dose was within 4 weeks of the biopsy
- People whose life expectancy is less than 12 months
- People who have been taking certain supplements — including those containing more than 2 mg of lycopene per day — within the past 60 days (confirm with trial site for specific products)
