Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are younger than 70 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of ovarian cancer (high grade serous carcinoma or low-grade endometrioid), confirmed by a tissue biopsy result.
- People whose cancer is at stage IIIC or stage IVA (where fluid around the lungs contains cancer cells), and who have already received 3 or 4 cycles of chemotherapy using carboplatin and paclitaxel.
- People whose cancer has partially responded to chemotherapy, shown by both a body scan (using a measurement system called RECIST) and a blood marker called CA-125 dropping by at least 50%.
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
- People who, during an interval surgery, had their tumour reduced so that any remaining tumour pieces are smaller than 2.5 mm.
- People whose general physical fitness is rated at a certain level (ECOG score of 0 or 1, meaning they are fully active or have only mild limitations — confirm with trial site).
- People whose kidneys, heart, liver, bone marrow, and lungs are functioning well enough before surgery, based on specific blood test results, including: adequate red blood cell levels, white blood cell count, platelet count, liver enzyme and bilirubin levels, kidney function, protein (albumin) levels, and heart pumping function above 55% (measured by an ultrasound of the heart).
- People whose spread of cancer throughout the abdomen scores below 20 on a specific measurement scale called the Sugarbaker Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Index (confirm with trial site).
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have heart failure or heart disease caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.
- People who have previously received chemotherapy for any other type of cancer.
- People who have a history of a neurological or psychiatric condition (a condition affecting the brain, nerves, or mental health — confirm with trial site for specifics).
- People who experience serious, unstable bleeding during surgery that affects their blood pressure and circulation.
- People who require more than two bowel reconnections (joins between sections of the bowel) during surgery.
