Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 years or older
  • People having a mastectomy on one breast only, with or without a procedure to check or remove lymph nodes under the arm
  • People scheduled to have their surgery at the JRSC or MSK Monmouth locations
  • People who have previously taken part in this trial, as long as it has been more than 6 months since their surgery on the other breast

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who do not speak English
  • People who are having breast reconstruction surgery at the same time as their mastectomy
  • People who are having both breasts removed at the same time
  • People who report a pain level higher than 3 out of 10 that is not related to any breast condition or procedure
  • People who currently take long-acting opioid (strong painkiller) medications
  • People whose mastectomy will be performed using a technique called tumescence (confirm with trial site)
  • People who weigh less than 40kg, due to the dose of medication used in the trial being above the safe limit at that weight
  • People who had surgery on the other breast as part of this trial within the past 6 months
