Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are able to understand and agree to take part, and are willing to follow the study schedule
  • You have been diagnosed with a type of spinal arthritis called axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), confirmed using recognised international guidelines
  • Your axSpA is currently in remission, meaning your disease activity score (called ASDAS) is below 1.3
  • Your disease has been in remission (ASDAS below 1.3) consistently across three check-ups, each four weeks apart
  • Your blood test results meet certain requirements — your blood cell counts, liver function, and kidney function are all within acceptable ranges (confirm with trial site for exact values)
  • If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test before joining; all participants must use effective contraception during the trial and for three months after it ends

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have had an allergic reaction to anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) or sulfa-based drugs in the past
  • You cannot tolerate anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs)
  • Your axSpA is currently in an active flare
  • You have a current or recent history (within the last 3 months) of stomach ulcers, gut problems, or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • You have an active infection, or a long-term infection that is currently flaring up (you may be able to re-apply once the infection has cleared)
  • You have had a serious fungal infection or a rare opportunistic infection within the 6 months before joining (confirm with trial site for examples)
  • You have another autoimmune condition, such as inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, or eye inflammation (uveitis), that could affect how the study results are measured
  • You have a current or previous history of heart failure, coronary heart disease, or serious irregular heartbeat
  • You have a severe or uncontrolled condition affecting a major organ or body system that makes joining the trial unsuitable
  • Your personal circumstances might make it difficult to take part fully — for example, planned long travel, relocation, mental health difficulties, or low motivation to participate
