Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 30 years old
- People who have injured the ACL (a ligament in the knee) in one knee within the last 4 days
- People who have swelling or blood in the injured knee joint
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have inflammatory arthritis, significant arthritis visible on X-ray, gout, or pseudogout
- People who have a whole-body illness or infection that requires medication
- People who have other injuries to the same knee, apart from certain cartilage (meniscus) or inner ligament (MCL) tears that do not need surgery
- People who have had surgery on either knee at any point in the past
- People who have had a previous knee injury serious enough to need crutches
- People with a history of blood clots in veins or arteries
- People who are currently using combined hormonal contraception (such as the combined pill, patch, or ring)
- People who regularly use anti-inflammatory pain medicines (such as ibuprofen or naproxen)
- People who have had a cortisone injection into either knee in the past 3 months
- People for whom ACL reconstruction surgery is not recommended, or who are unable to have the surgery within 3 months of the injury (confirm with trial site)
