Who might be able to join this trial:
This trial has several different groups. You may qualify for one of the following:
Group 1a:
- You have a history of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat condition)
Group 1b:
- You have a history of atrial fibrillation, AND you are already scheduled for a heart rhythm procedure or a procedure to treat atrial fibrillation
Group 1c:
- You have a history of atrial fibrillation or a related heart rhythm problem, AND you have previously had a stroke
Group 2:
- You are over 80 years old, your heart is showing a normal regular rhythm on an ECG, AND a heart scan shows your heart's upper left chamber is not enlarged
Group 3:
- You had a stroke or a brief stroke-like episode (where symptoms resolved quickly) before the age of 50, AND you have no history of atrial fibrillation
Who may not be able to join:
- You have not signed a consent form agreeing to take part
- (Group 1b only) You are pregnant
- (Group 2 only) You have a history of atrial fibrillation, a previous stroke or brief stroke-like episode, certain heart conditions (other than high blood pressure or heart valve problems), or specific abnormal results on your ECG or heart scan (confirm with trial site)
- (Group 3 only) Your stroke or brief stroke-like episode happened at age 50 or older
- You do not meet the inclusion criteria for any of the groups listed above
