Who might be able to join this trial:

• You have been diagnosed with CFS/ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) by a specialist in internal medicine with experience in this condition, using the recommended 2015 diagnostic guidelines.
• You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study.

Who may not be able to join:

• You have been diagnosed with a primary psychiatric disorder (such as a major mental health condition), a somatoform disorder (a condition where physical symptoms are linked to psychological causes), or a substance abuse problem.
• You have a heart condition such as decompensated heart failure, unstable angina, a very recent heart attack (within the last 3 days), poorly controlled irregular heartbeat, or severe heart valve narrowing.
• You have an infection or inflammation of the heart (endocarditis, myocarditis, or acute pericarditis).
• You have fluid in the lungs (acute pulmonary edema) or significant high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary arterial hypertension).
• You have a suspected or known dangerous widening or tearing of the main artery (aortic aneurysm or dissection).
• Your blood oxygen level at rest is below 85%.
• You have acute (sudden) kidney failure.
• You have an untreated overactive thyroid (thyrotoxicosis).
• You have an active infection.
• You have very high blood pressure (above 200/120 mmHg) that is not under control.
• You have a specific type of thickened heart muscle condition (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy) or a significant electrical conduction problem in your heart (high-grade atrioventricular block).
• You have episodes of fainting (syncope).
• You are in an advanced or high-risk pregnancy.
• You have a significant imbalance of minerals/electrolytes in your blood (confirm with trial site).
• You have severe anemia (very low red blood cell levels).
• You have a blood clot in the lungs (pulmonary embolism) or an inflamed clot in a vein (acute thrombophlebitis).
• You have a bone, joint, or neurological condition that prevents you from walking or cycling.
• You are unable to understand and follow the instructions given during the tests.
• You have also been diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome.
• You have already completed a specific type of peak exercise breathing test (incremental CPET) within the last 3 years.
