Who might be able to join this trial:

- People who are considered healthy sleepers
- People who have not been diagnosed with a sleep disorder or a brain/nerve-related condition
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously been diagnosed with a sleep disorder, or whose sleep monitoring results during a screening night show signs of breathing problems during sleep, frequent leg movements during sleep, difficulty falling asleep, or poor overall sleep quality
- People who have previously been diagnosed with a neurological illness or have had a head injury
- People who typically sleep fewer than 5 hours or more than 9 hours per night on average
- People who currently work shift work, or who cannot maintain a regular sleep schedule in the week before testing
- People who currently use psychiatric medications, recreational drugs, or medications that affect sleep (including sleep aids, cold medicines taken within the past week, clonidine, or stimulant medications)
- People who drink more than 4 cups of caffeinated drinks (such as coffee, tea, or cola) per day
- People who drink more than 10 alcoholic drinks per week
- People who are pregnant or who gave birth within the last 12 months
- People with a history of bipolar disorder or mania, or whose depression screening score suggests current depression
- People who have had unusual sleep patterns in the past 3 months, such as shift work or travel across more than 2 time zones
- People whose cognitive screening results fall below a certain threshold, suggesting possible cognitive difficulties (confirm with trial site)
- People whose depression screening score reaches a level indicating depression (confirm with trial site)
For the parts of the trial that involve MRI scanning, additional criteria apply — people may not be able to join if they:
- Are left-handed or use both hands equally
- Experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
- Have any metal in or on their body
- Are pregnant
