Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in the middle or lower part of the oesophagus, OR a type of lung cancer (non-small cell lung cancer at certain stages, including some cases with a limited number of brain tumours treatable by surgery or targeted radiation, or small cell lung cancer at an early to moderate stage)
- You are scheduled to receive external beam radiotherapy (radiation treatment from outside the body) with the aim of curing your cancer
- You have a general health/activity level rated as reasonably good by your doctor (WHO performance status 0–2) (confirm with trial site)
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are willing and able to give written consent to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had heart failure in the last 2 months
- You have had a blood clot in the lungs (pulmonary embolism) in the last 2 months
- You have very severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), classified as the most serious grade (GOLD stage IV)
- Your body mass index (BMI) is above 35
- You have previously had radiotherapy to the chest area
- You do not meet all of the inclusion criteria listed above
- If you are taking part in the MRI (scan) part of the trial: you have any reason why you cannot safely have an MRI scan (for example, certain metal implants — confirm with trial site)
