Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are 18 years of age or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease (a type of inflammatory bowel disease) for at least 3 months, based on medical tests, imaging, and/or tissue samples, and who have been confirmed not to have a related joint condition called spondyloarthritis
  • People who have been diagnosed with axial spondyloarthritis (a type of inflammatory joint disease affecting the spine) based on recognised medical criteria, and who have been confirmed not to have Crohn's disease
  • People who have been diagnosed with both Crohn's disease and axial spondyloarthritis
  • People who are able to give their full, free, and informed consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously had part of their colon (large intestine) surgically removed
  • People who have taken antibiotics or used bowel-preparation products (used to clear the bowel before a colonoscopy) within the 8 weeks before the stool sample is collected (confirm with trial site regarding timing exceptions)
  • People who have a stoma (an opening in the abdomen used to redirect the bowel) at the time samples are collected
  • People with a BMI (body mass index) over 30
  • People following an extreme or highly restrictive diet
  • People with poorly controlled diabetes
  • People who are pregnant
  • People who are under legal guardianship, curatorship, or under the protection of the justice system
