Who might be able to join this trial:

• You can be male or female, of any race or background
• You must be 18 years of age or older, and can be either a hospital inpatient or an outpatient
• You must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder (based on standard diagnostic guidelines called DSM-V)
• You must be able to understand and agree to take part in the study on your own
• You must have been on a steady, unchanged dose of antipsychotic medication (and any other regular medications) for at least 2 months, and your dose is not expected to change during the study

Who may not be able to join:

• People who are unable or unwilling to give informed consent, as assessed by a standard competency test called the MacArthur Test of Competence
• People with an unstable or serious ongoing physical illness or neurological condition, including anyone with a history of seizures (epilepsy)
• People who are currently having active thoughts of harming themselves or others
• People whose thinking is significantly disorganised, as measured by a specific rating on a standard assessment tool (confirm with trial site)
• People who have had a diagnosed dependence on substances (other than caffeine or nicotine) within the past month before joining the study
• People who test positive on a urine drug screen at the initial screening visit, unless the only substance detected is cannabis/marijuana
• People who have metal implants or a pacemaker, or who have any other reason they cannot have an MRI scan, such as severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
• People who are pregnant
• People who score below a certain level on a reading ability test called the Wide Range Achievement Test-III (confirm with trial site)
