Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are scheduled to have a procedure called ERCP (a procedure that examines the bile ducts using a flexible camera) and your doctor suspects or has confirmed you have gallstones in the bile duct, a narrowing of the bile duct (whether due to cancer or a non-cancerous cause).

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have had an ERCP procedure before
  • Your stomach or small intestine has been altered by previous surgery
  • Your doctor suspects or has confirmed a growth or tumour near the opening of the bile duct (the ampulla)
  • You have been diagnosed with cancer of the small intestine (duodenum)
  • You have certain types of small pouches (called diverticula) near the bile duct opening (types 1 and 2) (confirm with trial site)
  • You are pregnant
  • Your blood does not clot properly, specifically if a measurement called INR is higher than 1.5 (a blood test your doctor can check)

Who may be removed from the trial after joining:

  • If the procedure cannot be completed due to a problem related to the anaesthetic (the medication used to keep you comfortable during the procedure)
