Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with squamous cell cancer of the esophagus (food pipe), confirmed by a biopsy
- People whose lymph nodes show no signs of cancer spread, based on imaging scans
- People whose cancer has been confirmed at a specific early stage (T1b) through a procedure called endoscopic submucosal dissection
- People between the ages of 18 and 75
- People whose tumor is located in the chest portion of the esophagus
- People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities, as measured by a standard health scoring system (ECOG score of 0 or 1)
- People who are able and willing to provide written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who received any treatment for this cancer before their endoscopic submucosal dissection procedure
- People who are unable to receive any part of the trial's treatment
- People who have previously had surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or other treatments for a different primary cancer
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body
- People whose tumor affects more than three-quarters of the inner lining of the esophagus (confirm with trial site)
- People whose main tumor measures larger than 5 cm as measured during an endoscopy procedure
- People who are unable to understand the informed consent process
