Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 13 to 65 (for psoriasis), or aged 13 and older (for eczema and normal skin), of any gender
- People who are able to understand the study information and agree to take part
- People who are able to attend clinic appointments and follow study procedures
- People who can read, speak, and understand English
- People with long-term eczema (atopic dermatitis) that has been present for at least 1 year before joining, diagnosed using standard medical guidelines
- People with long-term psoriasis that has been present for at least 1 year before joining, diagnosed using standard medical guidelines
- People with eczema who have active skin patches on their arms, legs, or torso, and whose overall disease is rated as moderate-to-severe (confirm with trial site for exact scoring)
- People with psoriasis who have active skin patches on their arms, legs, or torso, and whose overall disease is rated as moderate-to-severe (confirm with trial site for exact scoring)
- For an optional skin biopsy part of the study only: adults aged 18 to 65 may be eligible to participate in that additional component
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unwilling or unable to go through the consent process
- People outside the age ranges specified for their condition
- People with eczema whose affected skin is not on the arms, legs, or torso
- People with eczema whose disease is rated below moderate severity
- People with psoriasis whose affected skin is not on the arms, legs, or torso
- People with psoriasis whose disease is rated below moderate severity
- People joining as healthy (control) participants who have been diagnosed with an inflammatory skin condition
- People with serious other illnesses that the study doctor believes would make participation unsafe — examples include HIV, certain autoimmune conditions, severe heart failure, or a history of most cancers (confirm with trial site)
- People who have had a bacterial, fungal, or viral infection requiring medication taken by mouth, injection, or IV within the past month
- People with a history of serious reactions to tape or adhesives may still be considered for the trial, but would not be able to take part in the tape-stripping procedure — only a baseline skin measurement would be taken
- For the optional skin biopsy part of the study only: people with a history of keloid scarring or allergy to lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) would not be eligible for that component
