Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between the ages of 40 and 85 years old
- People who have smoked at least 10 pack-years (roughly the equivalent of one pack per day for 10 years) in their lifetime
- People who currently smoke or who used to smoke
- People who have been diagnosed with COPD based on a specific breathing test result (a lung function test showing an FEV1/FVC ratio of 0.70 or below after using a bronchodilator), including those who also have conditions such as asthma, bronchiectasis, stable lung cancer, or a lung scarring condition
- People who are able to complete all required study tests, including lung function tests, a six-minute walk test, and a chest CT scan, and who are willing to sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are not willing to sign the consent form
- People whose life expectancy is estimated to be less than 3 years
- People who are currently receiving palliative care
- People who have a similar breathing obstruction result on their lung test but whose condition is caused by something other than smoking, or who do not have at least a 10 pack-year smoking history
- People who are unable to complete the required lung function tests, six-minute walk test, or chest CT scan
