Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have shoulder arthritis (of unknown cause) and have tried non-surgical treatments for at least 6 months without enough relief from pain or difficulty moving your shoulder
- Your non-surgical treatment must have included pain or anti-inflammatory medications, physiotherapy (such as stretching, strengthening, and treatments like ultrasound or ice therapy), and changes to your daily activities
- Scans and surgical findings show significant loss of cartilage in your shoulder joint
- You may have some bone loss or abnormal positioning of the shoulder socket, as long as the socket is not tilted back more than 15 degrees
- You are 65 years of age or older
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently have an active infection in your joint or anywhere in your body
- Your shoulder condition involves damage to the tendons surrounding your shoulder joint (known as rotator cuff arthropathy)
- You have significant weakness or loss of function in the muscles around your shoulder
- You have a nerve-related joint condition that causes joint damage (confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious medical illness that significantly shortens your life expectancy or makes surgery too risky
- You are unable to understand or go through the process of giving your consent to participate
- You are pregnant
- You have a psychiatric illness that prevents you from giving informed consent
- You are not willing to attend follow-up appointments for the full length of the study
- The position of your shoulder socket cannot be corrected closely enough to normal during surgery (confirm with trial site)
- You have had previous surgery on the shoulder being studied
