Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who can speak and understand English well enough to complete thinking and memory tasks
• People who are able to give their own informed consent to take part

For people with schizophrenia specifically, the following also apply:

• People who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, or schizoaffective disorder
• People whose medications have not changed in the past month
• People whose medications are not expected to change in the coming month
• People who are being treated as an outpatient or in a partial hospital program, with their condition currently stable
• People with an IQ score above 70, as measured by a standard test administered during the study
• People who are not currently taking the antipsychotic medication clozapine

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have a pacemaker
• People who have an implanted electrical stimulator in the brain or spine
• People who have an implanted defibrillator
• People who have any metallic implants
• People who have skin damage or a skin condition such as eczema at the areas where electrodes would be placed
• People whose hairstyle would prevent electrodes from being properly placed on the scalp
• People with known structural problems affecting the skull or brain (confirm with trial site)
• People who have had a head injury
• People who have epilepsy
• People who have an intellectual disability
• People with any known history of a neurological condition, including epilepsy, ALS, multiple sclerosis, stroke, cerebral palsy, autism, or — for healthy volunteers specifically — any major psychiatric disorder listed in the DSM-5
• People with uncorrected vision problems that would interfere with cognitive testing, including colour blindness where tasks require telling coloured objects apart
• People who are pregnant
• People who have had a substance dependency in the past six months
• People who have used substances in a harmful or problematic way in the past month
