Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 65 years old, both male and female, who are being treated as outpatients (not staying overnight in a hospital)
- People who have been diagnosed with one of the following conditions, based on recognised diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5): traumatic brain injury, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), borderline personality disorder, or a substance use disorder
Who may not be able to join:
- People for whom the brain stimulation treatment used in this trial (called tDCS) would not be safe, including those with a history of epilepsy, metal implants in the head or neck, brain stimulators, vagus nerve stimulators, shunts, or pacemakers, or those who are pregnant
- People who are currently dependent on substances, with the exception of tobacco or cannabis
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are unable to take part in the testing procedures involved in the trial
- People joining as healthy volunteers (controls) who have been diagnosed with any psychiatric or neurological condition
- People joining as healthy volunteers (controls) who are currently taking any medications that affect mood, thinking, or behaviour (psychotropic medications)
