Who might be able to join this trial:
Healthy Volunteers:
- You are between 18–35 years old (Group 1) or between 50–80 years old (Group 2)
- You speak English
- You are strongly right-hand dominant (you almost always use your right hand for tasks)
- You have a normal neurological exam as confirmed by the study doctor
Stroke Patients:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are willing and able to give your own consent to participate
- You had a stroke at least 6 months ago that affected one or both of your arms at the time of diagnosis
- You are able to perform the required study tasks, as checked during a physical exam
- You speak English
Who may not be able to join:
Healthy Volunteers:
- You are currently pregnant
- You have any reason you cannot safely have an MRI or MEG brain scan (confirm with trial site)
- You have taken sleep medications within 24 hours before a study session
- You have a serious or worsening neurological, psychological, or medical condition, as determined by the study doctor
- You are a staff member from the specific NIH section running this study
Stroke Patients:
- You are currently pregnant
- You have had a large stroke affecting the brainstem or cerebellum, as determined by the study doctor
- You have a serious or worsening neurological condition other than stroke (for example, Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis)
- You have an uncontrolled heart, lung, kidney, digestive, metabolic, psychiatric, sleep, or hormone-related condition
- You have any reason you cannot safely have an MRI or MEG brain scan (confirm with trial site)
- You are a staff member from the specific NIH section running this study
