Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are under 65 years old
  • People who have been diagnosed with breast cancer affecting only one breast, where the tumour is smaller than 3 cm, and is either non-invasive (in situ) or invasive
  • People whose doctors have determined that breast-conserving surgery (surgery that removes the tumour but keeps most of the breast) is a suitable option for them
  • People who have not had any previous surgery on the affected breast
  • People who are willing and able to attend follow-up appointments after the procedure (axillary/lymph node surgery such as sentinel lymph node biopsy or lymph node removal does not disqualify someone)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People aged 65 or older
  • People whose general health is poor, where life expectancy is estimated to be less than 2 years even without the cancer diagnosis
  • People who have had a different type of invasive cancer in the past (non-melanoma skin cancers are an exception to this)
  • People who required a full breast removal (mastectomy) because cancer was found at the edges of previously removed tissue
  • People who have had previous breast surgery of any kind (such as cosmetic or reconstructive surgery) or radiation treatment to the breast or underarm area
  • People whose tumour was not fully removed, as confirmed by laboratory examination of the tissue
  • People who have had severe complications from non-surgical treatments (such as radiation) that could affect the appearance or function of the breast
  • People who have an autoimmune disease
  • People whose tumour requires a full mastectomy, or whose tumour is larger than 3 cm, or who have certain aggressive forms of breast cancer affecting the skin or lymph vessels (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have used steroid medications long-term in a way that has changed the quality or structure of their skin
  • People who are under formal guardianship or are unable to cooperate with the medical team
