Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old
- You speak English
- You are right-handed
- You have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, schizotypal disorder, or brief psychotic disorder
- You hear voices (auditory hallucinations) at least once a week
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently use or are dependent on drugs or substances (a drug test will be used to check this)
- You have a neurological, medical, or developmental condition that is known to significantly affect thinking or memory
- You have metal implants of any kind, a pacemaker, a history of accidents involving metal, or you feel very uncomfortable in small, enclosed spaces (claustrophobia), as these are safety concerns for MRI scanning
- You have a history of seizures
- You have a history of violent behaviour
- You have a history of suicide attempts or suicidal behaviour
- You are pregnant (a urine test will be used to check this)
- You are currently taking part in another clinical research study that involves a treatment or intervention
- You have a history of difficulty urinating (urinary retention)
- You have a history of delirium (sudden severe confusion)
- You are currently taking any medication that affects a brain chemical called acetylcholine (cholinergic or anticholinergic medications) (confirm with trial site)
- You have a history of asthma, diabetes, or heart/cardiovascular disease
- A heart tracing test (EKG/ECG) shows signs of cardiovascular disease
- You have been taking a type of medication called dopamine-2 antagonists for less than 6 months (confirm with trial site)
