Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have a single breast tumour in one breast only, with no spread to the skin
- People whose tumour is small (less than 2–3 cm in size)
- People whose breast cancer has been confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy), either as an invasive cancer or a non-invasive (in situ) cancer
- People whose surgery removed the tumour with clear edges (no cancer cells found at the borders of the removed tissue)
- People who have between 0 and 3 affected lymph nodes under the arm, with no spread beyond the lymph node capsule
- People with no cancer that has spread to other parts of the body at the time of joining
- People aged 18 years or older
- People whose cancer has come back at least 12 months after their original breast-conserving surgery and full breast radiation treatment
- People who previously received whole breast radiation, or a more targeted form of radiation (such as intraoperative radiation, brachytherapy, or partial breast external beam radiation)
- People whose case is considered technically suitable for the treatment being studied (confirm with trial site)
- People who are receiving or have received any type of systemic treatment (such as chemotherapy or hormone therapy)
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial and for their information to be used for research
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has come back in the lymph nodes under the arm or above the collarbone
- People whose surgery left cancer cells at the edges of the removed tissue (positive margins)
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic disease)
- People whose breast appearance was significantly affected by their previous surgery and radiation treatment
- People whose cancer has a large area of non-invasive (ductal) cancer spread throughout the tissue (known as extensive intraductal component)
