Who might be able to join this trial:

For healthy volunteers (people who have not had a stroke):

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who speak and understand English fluently
  • People with no history of neurological conditions (such as epilepsy or Parkinson's disease) or psychiatric conditions (such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder)

For stroke patients:

  • People who have been diagnosed with aphasia (difficulty with language) after a stroke, as confirmed by their doctor or neuropsychologist
  • People whose consent date is at least 1 month after their stroke occurred
  • People who are right-handed
  • People who speak and understand English fluently
  • People aged 18 or older

Who may not be able to join:

  • People with severe difficulties in thinking, hearing, or vision that would make language and cognitive testing too difficult to complete
  • People with a major psychiatric illness that is currently untreated or not stable
  • People with a long-term medical condition that is currently untreated or not stable
  • People who have a cardiac stimulator or pacemaker
  • People who have any metal implants in their skull
  • People with any medical reasons that prevent them from having an MRI scan or a type of brain stimulation called tACS (confirm with trial site)
  • People with a history of seizures
  • People with a history of dyslexia or other developmental learning disabilities
