Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)
- You are able to speak and communicate well enough to take part in the study procedures
- You agree to use non-hormonal contraception for the whole time you are in the study (for women: a copper coil/IUD, having had a tubal ligation, or your partner using condoms; for men: using condoms or having had a vasectomy)
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently unwell with an acute illness or have recently been hospitalised
- You regularly drink large amounts of alcohol, use illegal drugs, take anabolic steroids, or use psychotropic (mind-affecting) drugs, as reported by your caregivers
- You are currently taking certain medications that affect hormones, including spironolactone, ketoconazole, blood thinners (anticoagulants), steroids, ACTH hormone, or any mental health medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, or anti-seizure drugs
- You have a known tumour on the pituitary gland or any other tumour that is affected by hormones
- You are already taking part in another clinical trial
- You are planning to have a child during the time the study is running
- For women: you have ovarian cysts, a condition causing irregular periods that is not related to the brain (such as polycystic ovary syndrome), or you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- For men: your red blood cell level (hematocrit) is above 54% (confirm with trial site)
- You have a reason you cannot have an MRI scan, such as having a pacemaker or metal clips in your body
- You or your legal representative do not wish to be told if something unexpected is found during the study
